GOD BLESS AMERICA
The familiar phrase above immediately brings to mind the words and music by Irving Berlin, copyrighted in 1938. It has been immortalized by well-known singer, Kate Smith, but sung by many others on many occasions, but especially with PATRIOTIC intent. It has galvanized the American spirit and united the American people.
A book by that title as well as sheet music are available. The song is listed among the favorite songs of the Boy Scouts of America, on their website. The phrase is seen on automobile bumpers and in some of the most unusual places. The whole idea of asking God to bless our nation has been inspiring to most Americans.
The text, aided by a "catchy" tune, acknowledges the existence of God. It indicates a need for blessings from God. And justly so.
You would think that our fellow-Americans would be willing to adjust their conduct, follow the divinely revealed will of the eternal God and prepare to receive His bountiful blessings. There is a limitless opportunity to receive what we all need from the Lord. A very important point here is that God can only dispense those blessings through His Son, Jesus Christ. It is written in ancient manuscripts that "all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him" (NKJV).
Millions of Americans fall into the category of expecting God's blessings, only if they are prepared to receive them. However, other people in the position of leadership in the U.S.A., whether it be politicans, the professional elite, those in entertainment or even leaders of certain so-called "Christian" churches and seminaries, are leading millions down the wrong path by their godless actions. As an example, in Atlanta, there are seminary professors who call themselves, "Christian atheists." That is an oxymoron of the worse kind.
How can we expect God to help people when they live according to the ways of God's archenemy, the Devil? Many complain about the numerous catastrophes in recent years, volcanos, floods, hurricanes, famine, to name a few and blame God for allowing them. Do we deserve any better?
OF COURSE NOT!
Most of the sins and transgressions condemned by God are being mindlessly practiced with no regrets: adultery, fornication, homosexuality, dishonesty, corruption, addiction to substances, murder, extortioners and idolatry, to name a few.
LET US NOT BE HYPOCRITES ASKING GOD FOR BLESSINGS WHEN WE ARE FLAUNTING SIN IN HIS FACE. Let us no longer sing the song or say the words until we are ready to repent and seek the Lord's face through Jesus Christ. PFFlyer
